Publication of Data Obtained by the W.M. Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource Laboratory

Publications that utilize data obtained by (or synthetic oligonucleotides or peptides made by) the Keck Biotechnology Resource Laboratory should contain an acknowledgment to the W.M. Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource Laboratory at Yale University. Since there are 25 staff members in the Keck Biotechnology Resource Laboratory, it is quite possible that the staff member that summarized and forwarded the data you received or that gave you the oligo you had synthesized may well not have been the staff member(s) that actually carried out the work. Hence, generally we advise against acknowledging individual Keck Biotechnology Resource Laboratory Staff. It is very important, however, that you acknowledge the Keck Biotechnology Resource Laboratory and that you forward copies of all such publications to Shrikant Mane. The latter provide a critical contribution to the NIH and NSF Shared Instrumentation Grants that provide the funds that enable this facility to continue to acquire the state-of-the-art instrumentation upon which your analyses and syntheses depend. If your publication contains significant protein chemistry data acquired in the Keck Biotechnology Resource Laboratory, we recommend that prior to publication you email excerpts of the manuscript page(s) that contain or discuss this data to Shrikant Mane so that it may be quickly reviewed prior to submission.
