Brief Description of the Keck Facility
and Its Operating Policies
The W.M. Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource
Laboratory was founded in 1980 as the Yale
University School of Medicine Protein and Nucleic
Acid Chemistry Facility. In 1987 this unit became
associated with HHMI; in 1991 it was moved into
3,200 square feet of space on the third and fourth
floors of the newly constructed Boyer Center for
Molecular Medicine, whereupon it became the W.M.
Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource Laboratory;
and in 1997 it joined with the Mass Spectrometry
Resource in the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since
its founding the Keck Facility has been
self-supporting with respect to recovering its
operating expenses from user fees.
