Instructions for using Fetch to access ftp accounts

We hope that you will find the following instructions useful for using the Fetch program to access the ftp accounts.

We have version 3.0.1 of Fetch on our Macs. You will want to set up a "shortcut" for downloading the data.

Start Fetch and go to the customize popup menu and select "new shortcut".

A dialog box appears which asks the following questions:

Name: type anything to name the shortcut say "ftp- "

type: (don't type anything here)

host: type "wmkeck.med.yale.edu"

user id: type " yourid " (in lower case letters, very important)

password: type " PAssword" (exactly as given to you--case sensitive, very important)

directory: (don't type anything here)

Click on the OK box and the new shortcut will be saved. It can be found on the open shortcut popup menu under the file menu.

To use: Select the new shortcut from the popup menu. The program will place you in the /pub directory where your sequences will be found in a folder with your name on it..

To download sequences: Select the appropriate sequences from the /pub directory and click on the get file(s) button. A dialog box will appear asking you where you want to save the files on your hard disk, floppy disk, etc. Navigate using standard Macintosh procedures to the desired folder and click the Save button. The files will be dowloaded to the selected folder.

To leave the ftp site: Click the close box on the upper left hand corner of the window or quit the program with the quit command under the file menu.

Please download your data and archive it. Periodically (perhaps monthly or bimonthly), we will clean out old files from each ftp account.
