What's New?

March 1, 2008:  We have reduced prices for high volume plates. Please visit our price schedules under services charges, to view how the new price per well applies to your plate format.

October 1, 2007:  We are adding a new drop off location for sequencing samples, Amistad room 420.  We will have a courier pick up from this location two times daily, at approximately 9am and 3pm.

March 27, 2006:  We are  starting a new Ready to Run (RTR) sequencing service on a trial basis:  we will accept cleaned-up sequencing samples that are ready to load onto the ABI 3730xl. They MUST be in ABI MicroAmp Optical plates, cycle sequenced with ABI BigDye Terminator v. 3.1, and cleaned up to remove excess dye and other contaminants (e-mail nancy.dasilva@yale.edu for protocols).  The charge for RTR is $144/96 well plate ($1.50/sample) and you will be charged regardless of the results unless we observe an obvious sequencer problem.

March 1, 2006:   Labeling premixed tubes with barcodes has allowed us to process more samples with less staff involvement.  As a result, we have reduced our prices for premixed sequencing samples submitted in individual tubes from $12 to $10 a sample. Also,  templates that have a high GC content (>70%), known structures, or BAC that require our difficult template protocol will cost an extra $2.  These samples have to be sequenced separately by hand and require different reagents.  Please contact us for more information.

DNA Sequencing Drop-off Hours and Locations

Medical School Area: BCMM 108, TAC S352, AMISB 420:

  •  Drop-off hours:  8:30 am-4:30pm
  •  Estimated pick-up times:  9:00 am and 3:00 pm
    • Samples submitted after 3:00 pm will be picked-up the next morning and processed on that day.  Samples submitted after the 9:00am pickup will be processed the next business day.

Science Hill Area: JWG 304 & OML 114:

  • Estimated pick-up times:  9:00 am and 2:30 pm
  • Since the MB&B pickup is an unsecured area and the courier service is involved, we cannot be responsible for samples that do not reach us from these locations.

300 George St Room 2127:  This site is available for questions between the hours of 1 and 3pm weekdays only.

  • Drop-off hours:  8:30am-5:00pm

High Volume Sequencing: 96-well Plate Format

The high volume, 96-well plate format is available for researchers who are experienced users of the facility who are confident in their methodology for template and primer preparation. We sequence and charge for the whole plate regardless of the results, unless it is a clear error on our part.

Turnaround Time

  • Our OPTIMUM turnaround time is 1 day from the day of submission.
  • For example: 4 samples submitted on Monday morning will be ready by Tuesday lunchtime; 30 samples submitted on Monday, 10 will be ready on Tuesday and then 10 on each subsequent day until complete.
  • When we take in a particularly large number of samples (e.g. 400 or more) in one day, this significantly changes our turnaround time. It may increase to as much as 2 days.
  • Primer walking projects are also subject to turnaround time increases when we have a large number of submissions within a short period of time.

Data Return

We now have 100% of our customers successfully using the ftp-server. We welcome your comments via e-mail.

  • This requires that each lab have access to the Yale ftp server at ftp.med.yale.edu.
  • Access is possible using ftp-client software such as Fetch for Macintosh and FTP-Voyager for IBM/PC's.
  • WE NOW HAVE access via our WEB-site for data return via FTP at host ftp.med.yale.edu which makes access very simple. The link can be found in the Site Index. Simply enter you user ID and password to enter your lab account and obtain data.

For new users of our facility : ftp-accounts are created after we receive your first submission. Account information is returned to the researcher via e-mail before the first data are available.

Data Removal from FTP accounts

It is critical that you back-up data from the server as soon as it arrives, so that you will not lose valuable data when it is deleted.  Typically, data is left on the server for 4-6 weeks.
