Radioactive Samples

Some protein chemistry services such as preparative HPLC and Edman sequencing may be carried out on samples that contain [3H], [14C], [35S] or [32P] where the radioactive isotope is essential for the project to succeed and where the total quantity of isotope is below 1.0 µCi. If you are considering preparing and submitting a radioactive sample, you should first send an outline of the project to the Protein Chemistry Section before proceeding with final planning of the experiment. In addition, prior to bringing or shipping radioactive samples to the Keck Facility, you must request additional instructions (including a special shipping address) from Mary LoPresti. Radioactive (and/or other hazardous material) samples can NOT be walked or otherwise transported to 300 George Street without the assistance of OEHS. Radioactive samples that are brought, or are shipped to the Keck Laboratory without following these instructions will be declined. Due to the added work involved in meeting NRC regulations, all analyses on radioactive samples will be subject to a $100 surcharge.
